Today is the anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 “A date that will live in infamy”. Instead of remembering this day and the people who lost their lives during this event by posting pictures of flames and smoke, I wanted to show something different.
A former acquaintance of mine, who was in the Navy, told me that every a ship comes into Pearl Harbor everyone on the ship stands on the deck saluting. They begin miles out (I believe 5 to 10 miles from port) and stand in salute the entire time…why you may ask?
To honor the fallen soldiers of the USS Arizona (and all those who fell really) which can still be seen from the top of the water and still holds the remains of it’s men.
This is a picture of Navy Seamen honoring our dead and today we should also honor and remember the bravery of, not only the lost Seamen, but also the local civilians who lost their lives that horrible day.
We need not forget, we need not take it for granted. Without their sacrafices and the ones that followed over the next 5 years were would we be?
